During the last week of August, SRFIM held a variety of events to raise awareness for Epilepsy. The theme of the week was
“People with Epilepsy have a right to be included”.
During this campaign week several road shows were held across Malawi, which attracted hundreds of people. At the road shows guest speakers spoke about the medical condition and social affects, drawing attention to the issues faced by people with epilepsy. These include not only a lack of provision of medication, but also discrimination in terms of access to work and other educational opportunities.
The week kicked off with an 'Epilepsy science café' in Blantyre, Malawi’s second city. The café sessions discussed “What is the truth about epilepsy?”
The events were overall well publicized and gained coverage on over eight radio stations.
